These dainty earrings are cast in solid sterling silver from a real crinoid fossil — a star-shaped fragment of an ancient sea lily stem. Historically known as a "star stone," and in parts of northern England as a St Cuthbert's Bead, these fossils were once threaded into rosaries and necklaces, believed by legend to wash ashore by the saint's own hand.
